[UPDATE 9/5-09: added lots of nice photos by tamo meijburg — supertak tamo!]

damn this video is hard to compress!! so sorry for the pixel glitches folks. but this is it, the best quality i could get with sorenson squeeze and H264: a frame export of my gifVJ software written in processing. the plan is to release the software as open source once i clean up the code. more on this later.

currently this video is part of the exhibit STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS in machwerket in århus. audio side is a cover of “if you’re going to san francisco (be sure to wear flowers in your hair)” repeated two times. cover by 4bit rockers la belle indifference, recorded straight from two classic game boys running little sound dj.

after only 3x24hrs on the net, we get this:

after seeing the video, rosa menkman did an acid remix to a track by goto80. what a beautiful freak this project has become!

ok: now that the exhibit is up and running, and most bugs have been seen to and sorted out, i’ve started sorting all the pictures, txt code and what not which belongs on this blog and in the interwwweb in general — there is some good stuff in there! while im still at it, you can all enjoy this little giffy featuring BITLUDER and NEMO that played at the opening party.

thanks for a great night guys! :]

video of the whole gig coming soon. and, as a special service for the impatient ones, here is a download link for the RAW feed from my camera

raw video stream of a video installation made for the exhibit STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS:

this video is somewhat of a mashup:
contains txt by me (originally inspired by a lecture by ezio manzini), goto80 & rosa menkman, all of which has been processed, mixed and layed out by code by marcin ignac. the graphics is made by thea sikker remin and then animated by raquel meyers. final video edit, has been done through DVD recorder glitches and decisions ruled by math.

in the installation setup the video is further distorted by projecting it onto the gallerys window through a mirror mounted on a speaker unit. whenever people pass the gallery, square wave sound will be played to the speaker and the video image will get shattered but the vibrations in the mirror / speaker. since the video projector used is a DLP projector, red, green and blue color is updated at slightly different times. this causes the image to dissolve into the respective color layers. the framerate is amazing (150+!) and nearly impossible to take photos/video of.

A single-chip projector alternates between colors and produces separate red, green, and blue images when displaying a moving image, or in this case, illuminating a moving hand. [from wikipedia]

phew… so i was hoping that this blog could show more of the process of doing the exhibit… but right now i have so much to do with the exhibition, that i find it hard to dedicate time to the blog. i promise i will upload a lot of stuff once the exhibit is up and running / i get more time.

meanwhile you can take a look through my photos on flickr
